We’ve all heard of FOMO, right? Fear Of Missing Out. Well, I have FOMOOAGO… that stands for Fear Of Missing Out On A Great Outfit, of course. Don’t you wish there were an app for that?
Well guys, there is! If you haven’t had the pleasure of using the app The Hunt yet, let me fill you in on what you’re missing! There is a whole community of “hunters” that help you scour the web for amazing finds. For example, have you ever clicked on an amazing pin on Pinterest only to find it out it leads to a dead end? The worst. Simply upload a picture of what you’re looking for and start a hunt! The other hunters can help you find it! It’s amazing. I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the lovely ladies behind the scenes to get you guys the inside scoop!
Mod City Magazine: First off tell me who you are and what you do!
The Hunt: My name is Ally and I am the community manager at The Hunt! Being at a startup company, means I do a little of everything! I always joke about the endless things I should add to my LinkedIn profile. From answering up to 200 support tickets a day from community members to backing 50 lbs of candy into individual cellophane bags and lugging it from SF to LA (don’t ask…) But I love every minute of it and I’m very passionate about what I do. I love being a community manager of such a helpful and supportive community of women who help each other through fashion.
Okay, now tell me about your app.
The Hunt is a community-driven shopping app that we like to call “The Cure for Outfit Envy.” If you’ve ever been on Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr or even out in the real world and you see an amazing outfit that you HAVE to have, and don’t know where to buy, upload a photo to the app and other members of the community will “solve your Hunt” and tell you where you can buy what you’re looking for.
What do you want fashionistas to get out of your app?
Obviously, The Hunt solves a major shopping pain point for many people who see something they love but don’t know where to buy themselves. It’s also a great way to share your style and earn style karma by helping someone else find what they’re looking for.
You work with fashion bloggers, tell me more about that.
We do! We actually work with a lot of influencers on different platforms from fashion bloggers, to YouTube gurus, Vine stars, people who are popular on Instagram, you name it! The Hunt is a great platform for these style influencers to connect with their fans and the people they inspire in a two-way conversation. We do really fun collaborations where influencers will start a Hunt for an outfit say they want to wear to an event and ask their followers to style them and then they will choose a winner to win a prize. This is a fun way to turn the tables and allow regular people to give style influencers advice.
5. Anything else you would like to add here is fair game!
I would have to say the best thing about The Hunt is the community (okay, I’m totally biased) but this is a really special community. I’m sure you heard about the Charity Challenge, but that just wrapped up last week and that was my big project. One of our community members, Allyson Ahlstrom who is 19 years old started a company called
Threads for Teens when she was 14! Threads for Teens solicits clothing donations from designer brands like Wildfox, Claires, etc. for clothing donations and TFT books VIP styling appointments with girls in foster care and group homes. Allyson took TFT on it’s second nation wide tour this summer styling girls all over the country! We wanted to get involved because Allyson is such an inspiration and wanted to support her cause. We challenged our community to solve up to 200k Hunts in two weeks (the average is around 100k) and we would donate up to $15,000! We just wrapped this up (check out our blog for more info at
blog.thehunt.com) and we’re so excited that our community really stepped it up and solved 193k Hunts! Since we were so close we decided to donate the full $15k! Anyway, we would love to do some challenges like that in the future! Allyson stopped by our office today and said she’s going to use the money to purchase the TFT bus that they had rented for their tour.
There you have it! An amazing app doing amazing things, you know, aside from just curing outfit envy! I use this app religiously. This is what it looks like when someone solves a Hunt for you! So run, don’t walk, to your nearest computer or smart phone and download The Hunt now! Never miss out on a great outfit ever again!
