fall fashion trends to tryMaybe it’s just me but with the changing of season I love to switch up a few key components of my beauty and fashion routines. Since I’m no longer in school I have to find creative ways to do a little “back to school shopping” but I can always find an excuse if I’m adding something new to my usual routines. Below are a few of the key things to look forward to this fall when it comes to your style and beauty.

1. Get edgy with your makeup

This year is all about dark, smudgy, rock and roll inspired eyes. That means grab a kohl eyeliner and go cray. Luckily, this is one of those looks where the more eyeliner and the smudgier the better so don’t be afraid to apply with a heavy hand. Just be sure to pay attention to detail and clean it up a bit before you head out because rocker chic is cool, raccoon chic is not.

2. Fringe from head to toe.

Fringe is something you can dabble in this year in your wardrobe or beauty routine. If you’re feeling bold, go for a little chop and add some fringy bangs to your ‘do. Fall is a great time to try this with less humidity in the air you won’t have to worry about your bags going all sticky and frizzy for the most part. If you’re more interested in wearing fringe, you’re in luck! It is everywhere this year! Rebecca Minkoff makes a fabulous suede Mini Speedy covered in fringe (I own it and I am already obsessed). Jackets come with fringe now, in an updated chic way, don’t worry. You can also find heels and boots decked out with fringe. The possibilities are endless this season and there is definitely something for everyone!

3. Classic Lips

A red lip is positively timeless. This year I dare you to get on board with this trend if you haven’t already. Investing in a great red lipstick can literally be life changing. My personal favorite is Heat Wave by NARS. It’s a great punchy, bright red for summer that will take you into early fall. When the weather really starts to cool down, trade in your true red for a deeper hue. Think berry, wine, or oxblood.

4. Pretty Pleats

I love the feminine pleated look. It’s actually one of the only strictly feminine looks I can regularly get on board with (if you follow my personal blog you know I’m much more comfortable in a look with more edge). This year pleats are coming back in a fresh and updated way. Think… car wash chic. The pleats are a little less feminine and more structured and masculine.

5. Get the Boot

One of my personal favorite trends to roll out this year is the comeback of the big, chunky, black boot. Perhaps it has something to do with the absurdly cold winters we have been having the past few years, but a boot that is functional and stylish is a do on my list! You can grab a pair with a stacked heel, embellished buckles, lots of zippers! Whatever catches your eye, definitely add it to your collection because my guess is you will definitely need a reliable boot this year!

6. Get Waisted

This trend was everywhere you looked during the summer months, yes, I’m talking about high waisted! From high waisted shorts, to skirts, to even bikinis, there really wasn’t anything you couldn’t find that would fit that bill. As summer turns into fall high waisted pants are going to be front and center. High waisted jeans with a little flare at the leg (yes, that’s in this year as well) look flawless with a crisp button up for casual Friday’s, or trendy with a cropped sweater for a brunch date with the girls.

7. One of the Boys

Menswear is huge this year! There are plenty of ways to rock this trend, even if you’re all about the feminine touches. The menswear look is evident with suits and loafers this fall. Try a sleek pantsuit with feminine hair and makeup, or pair loafers with a lacy little dress. Skinny scarves are going to be popping up this season and that is no doubt a trend grabbed from the skinny tie look men have been wearing lately.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

I do not decide the trends that are going to be big each season, I can only report them. That said, I just cannot get down with every trend that heads down a catwalk simply because a designer decided it should. Below are a few trends I’ve noticed are being reported on that may be for you… orrrr they may not.

The Dickie
Think Howard from The Big Bang Theory… seriously. Apparently a faux turtle neck is a thing this year.

Now You See Them… Now You Don’t
I’m talking about your hands. Seriously. Designers are curating collections with extremely long sleeves. So while you may not have to invest in as many gloves this year, you certainly won’t be able to get through any day-to-day activity without having to roll up your sleeves every 30 seconds.

Outside the Lines
Another look to grace the runways this year was some unconventional eyeliner. Think extra long wings, eyeliner just coming out from the corners of your eyes, eyeliner on your forehead… not really, but it was starting to get a little ridiculous. This may be a fun trend to play with if you’re actually a runway model, but I’m having a hard time picture most of these looks in the real world.

What are you excited to try out this year? I’m personally looking forward to the boots, obviously, and smudgy makeup! I mean, maybe someday I’ll test out a trend I don’t already dabble in but for now I’m looking forward to the things I already wear being socially acceptable now!
