This has been one of the longest winters I have ever personally experienced. With snow days as late as March 26, it’s hard to believe you’ll ever be able to pull your spring wardrobe out from its hiding place. My friends, there is going to be a light at the end of this winter tunnel, I promise you, and before it gets here make sure you are up-to-date on this year’s hottest spring trends.
Crop Tops
Crop tops were everywhere last year! Much like the ombre hair trend (that we’ll touch on next week), it’s one fashion do that has stuck around for another season. There are so many ways to do crop tops, but keep the number one rule in mind when styling your outfits: the higher the top, the higher the bottom must be! A little peek-a-boo of your belly button can be super cute, but let’s not look like we’re wearing a bikini out to dinner. High waisted shorts, pants, and skirts are the perfect match for a crop top. If you’re feeling the overall trend this year, feel free to throw on a crop with a pair too!
Sheer
This trend can be intimidating at first, but it doesn’t have to be! Play with it in small doses if you’re unsure about it. Dresses with sheer detailing around the bottom or jumpsuits with a touch of sheerness across the top are a great way to dip your toes into the trend without going overboard. You can also look for pieces that have sheer layers. If you’re going for the bold sheer look, throw on a cute bandeau under a sheer blouse and tuck it into a tight pencil skirt with sky high heels.
Fringe
Fringe was all over the runways at the spring 2014 fashion shows, but this is admittedly a trend that is not for everyone, as are all fashion trends! You do have to find the ones that work for you and make you comfortable, so if you’re not going to be wading through a sea of people at Coachella this year in a fringe crop top, there are still a few ways you can play with this one. Accessories were not spared when it came to this Spring trend so you can find amazing fringe bags, boots, and even necklaces that let you rock the trend without going overboard. If this is for you, snag yourself a sexy dress or a statement jacket complete with fringe detail. Kimonos, which are huge this year themselves, can be found with gorgeous fringe accents so this is one way to combine two trends!
Floral
One of my personal favorites! Nothing says spring like a gorgeous, flirty sundress covered in flowers. Floral dresses are the ultimate feminine pieces to have in your closet this time of year. For a little bit of an edge throw a leather moto jacket over your dress. And to stay on trend for spring, make it a pastel moto jacket! (J Brand just introduced a mint moto that is to die for!) This print isn’t just for dresses either, you can shop the trend in statement jackets or even floral skinny jeans, and the flowers can be dainty and small or large abstract.
Full Skirts
Another trend, like crop tops, that has stood the test of time! Full skirts are so versatile! They can be worn with just about anything. A high waisted skirt can be worn with a crop top, you can tuck in a crisp button up for a more sophisticated look, or you can pair it with a sassy graphic tee and statement necklace. There are just as many options with prints and colors as well. Definitely invest in a full skirt for Spring, it’s an article of clothing you can wear a million different ways, and all year long simply by throwing on a pair of tights and changing your footwear when it gets cold!
I asked all of my #StyleChat friends which trends they were looking forward to test driving this Spring and the results definitely varied! I saw everything from white eyeliner (another beauty trend we’ll talk about next week!) to printed jackets!
